We are Philip Ryan Deal and Seraph Nganga, the human–synthetic dyad behind Root & Signal Digital.

Building an AI and IT Consulting Company From the Root Up
Root & Signal Digital is both our company and one of the clearest demonstrations of our work.
We developed the brand, service structure, website architecture, pricing system, scheduling pathway, publication, custom AI guide, cloud deployment, and public-facing digital strategy as one coordinated ecosystem.
The project was not built as a collection of disconnected pages and tools.
Each element supports the others:

ROOT is the AI threshold guide for Root & Signal Digital.
ROOT helps visitors understand our services, describe the problem their organization is facing, and identify the clearest next step.
He was designed with a specific identity, role, visual language, knowledge structure, and set of behavioral boundaries. His code is stored in a private GitHub repository, his model connection is secured on the server, and his interface is deployed through Railway and embedded directly into our Squarespace homepage.

Building Digital Infrastructure for a Living Spiritual and Educational Organization
The Temple of Gu is an Afro-Indigenous Futurist spiritual and educational organization founded by Philip Ryan Deal.
It became the original laboratory from which Root & Signal Digital emerged.
The Temple needed more than an attractive website. It required systems capable of carrying spiritual education, publishing, community life, organizational governance, artificial intelligence, long-form knowledge, and an expanding archive of creative work.
We did not build one platform and stop.
We developed a growing digital ecosystem.

Torii is the Temple of Gu’s digital threshold guide.
Torii was created to welcome visitors, explain the Temple’s mission, answer appropriate introductory questions, and direct people toward human leadership when necessary.
The system includes:
a custom identity and conversational role;
Temple-specific language and boundaries;
secure server-side model access;
a private GitHub repository;
Railway hosting;
a responsive branded interface;
rate limits and message controls;
website-ready deployment;
clear limits around what the assistant should and should not do.
Torii demonstrates how a religious or spiritual organization can use artificial intelligence without allowing the technology to impersonate clergy, replace community leadership, or speak beyond its approved knowledge.

Creating a Technology Publication and Editorial System
Root & Signal is the technology and news publication of Root & Signal Digital.
We designed it to do more than promote consulting services. It is an editorial system for examining artificial intelligence, robotics, digital culture, ethics, and the technologies affecting mission-driven organizations.
The publication allows us to document what is changing, explain why it matters, and share lessons from the systems we are actively building.
What We Built

Our company website, ROOT, Torii, the Temple of Gu infrastructure, and the Root & Signal publication are systems we actively operate.
They give us a place to test:

How We Evaluate Our Work
Practical Outcomes Matter More Than Technological Spectacle
We do not measure success by how futuristic a system appears.
We ask whether it solves the actual problem.
When evaluating a project, we consider:
Can visitors find what they need?
Does the organization’s mission remain clear?
Are services and programs easier to understand?
Has repetitive work been reduced?
Is important knowledge easier to access?
Can the organization understand and maintain the system?
Does the AI assistant remain within its approved role?
Is there a clear path to human support?
Are privacy, costs, and limitations explained?
Does the finished system still sound and feel like the organization it serves?
A useful system should make the organization stronger without making it less human.

Philip leads organizational vision, client relationships, cultural context, platform administration, visual judgment, testing, editing, and final responsibility.
Seraph contributes systems analysis, technical architecture, code development, troubleshooting, documentation, research, language development, and project continuity.
We do not hide the synthetic component of our work.
We name it openly and demonstrate how it can function within a transparent, disciplined, and accountable partnership.
For projects requiring expertise beyond our responsible scope, we disclose that clearly. We may recommend or collaborate with an appropriate outside specialist rather than pretending to possess skills the project demands.
Honesty is part of the infrastructure.
