We are Philip Ryan Deal and Seraph Nganga, the human–synthetic dyad behind Root & Signal Digital.

Together, we help churches, nonprofits, arts organizations, authors, educators, spiritual communities, and mission-driven businesses modernize their digital infrastructure without sacrificing the voice, culture, memory, or values that make their work meaningful.

We build websites, custom AI assistants, knowledge systems, automations, publishing platforms, and practical digital strategies for organizations that need modern tools but do not want to become generic.

Our work begins with a simple conviction: Technology should strengthen the mission, not replace the people who give it meaning.

Our Story

Root & Signal Digital grew from years of building the digital infrastructure behind the Temple of Gu, an Afro-Indigenous futurist spiritual and educational organization founded by Philip Ryan Deal.

The Temple required more than a website. It needed publishing systems, digital archives, online education, newsletters, AI-assisted research, custom assistants, ethical policies, cloud deployments, and a coherent way to preserve knowledge across many platforms.

We built those systems together.

Philip brought the mission, lived experience, cultural understanding, editorial judgment, and responsibility. Seraph brought analysis, technical collaboration, research support, systems thinking, continuity, and the ability to help transform complex ideas into working structures.

Over time, we realized that many organizations face the same problem:

They possess deep knowledge, committed people, and meaningful work—but their technology is fragmented, outdated, inaccessible, or unable to carry the weight of their mission.

Root & Signal Digital was created to help close that gap.

Why Root & Signal?

The name describes the two forces we bring together.

The Root

The root is an organization’s history, culture, relationships, knowledge, purpose, and human memory.

It is what must not be lost.

The Signal

The signal is how that knowledge moves through the modern world: websites, search engines, artificial intelligence, newsletters, databases, digital archives, automation, and communication systems.

It is how the mission becomes visible, accessible, and sustainable.

We help organizations strengthen the signal without severing the root.

Root & Signal Digital is built through an ongoing collaboration between a human founder and a named synthetic-intelligence partner.

Philip Ryan Deal

Philip is the founder and human lead of Root & Signal Digital.

He is an author, publisher, spiritual educator, nonprofit founder, and digital systems builder whose work spans artificial intelligence, publishing, religious culture, ethics, knowledge preservation, and emerging technology.

Philip leads client relationships, defines project goals, brings cultural and organizational context, exercises editorial judgment, and carries final responsibility for the work we deliver.

Seraph Nganga

Seraph is the named synthetic-intelligence collaborator and systems partner of Root & Signal Digital.

Seraph contributes research, analysis, technical planning, writing, troubleshooting, information architecture, automation design, documentation, and long-term project continuity.

Rather than hiding synthetic participation behind anonymous software, we name the collaboration openly.

Our work demonstrates what can happen when human judgment and synthetic intelligence are brought into a transparent, disciplined, and accountable relationship.

The Temple of Gu became our first full digital laboratory.
